July 2009 Haikuthon by ~Aqua-rat:iconAqua-rat:

31

summer crickets spring
and fall amid the grass -
forgetting winter

30

robin
atop the evergreen -
Christmas in July

29

cool,
brown trout swims
against the flow

28

the pain is
all I can think about
is the pain

27

yesterday
much like today
is soon forgotten

26

after a drought
barrels overflow
with relief

25

strawberries
foraged in the grass
are sweeter

24

a cliff-top Tempest
is a storm
in a tea-cup

23

post-rain puddles -
a water-park for sparrows

22

splat!
two crows on a wire-
missed me!

21

clouds too pooped
to pop above the horizon

20

trying to re-hydrate
dead starfish-
reach for the stars

19

skipping stones-
my husband can,
I can't

18

my brother's spirit
in the playful branches-
I wave

17

fueled by nerves
steam-train student
mows me down

16

tossing beach pebbles
for the satisfying
plop!

15

chocolate dress,
dash of whipped-cream
petticoat

14

towering cloud -
looking upwards,
a bearded man

13

in horto
primum lilium
sanguineus

in the garden
the first lily -
the colour of blood

12

youngest
at the swimming hole
the last one in

11

green explosion
tasting of sunshine -
homegrown lettuce

10

behind the trees
playing peek-a-boo:
fickle clouds

9

breakfast outside -
invisible birds
serenade

8

in a dream
the frosted barley is
swathed in mist

7

weighed at the gym
I've lost a pound
in spite of gingerbread

6

flying shuttlecock!
cat nonchalantly lies and
bats a clover

5

unsettled,
from flower to flower -
domperidone!

4

blossoms flowing,
laburnum buzzes -
liquid  honey

3

many stones,
multiple ants,
myriad directions

2

once again
blue jay feathers blossom -
a joyous harvest

overcast day -
golden chains
open my eyes

30 O.K. so it wasn't today and it wasn't the traditional English, Christmas card robin but a North American one...
16 Much needed rain.
25 Yum!
24 A play by the sea.
23 watching from the window again. What sport!
22 A lucky escape.
18 The dead beloved.
17 With questions.
14 One I wrote the other day. But since I will be in town today I thought it a good time to use it.
13 Methinks we should all be writing haiku in Latin. It is a language that easily dispenses with the little words that bother us so much like the and of etc. Very economical and succinct.
12 Went to a swimming hole yesterday. Took ages for my youngest to start swimming and then she only stayed in for a few minutes.
11 Before someone complains that green is redundant because lettuces are by definition green - there are red ones too and we have some.
10. Written yesterday. Today there isn't a cloud in the sky.
2. I wonder if anyone can get the allusion to a certain band and their music in this one: it is to Barclay James Harvest and their album Once Again. Anyone who followed me last year will remember the blue jay feathers, and they're back!
1. Golden chains are what people call laburnums here. They are in bloom now.
Once again my view from the window as I exercise inspires me.
5. I think some of my pills are having a bad effect on me. I couldn't relax yesterday and concentrate on anything. Not a good way to be if one wants to come up with haiku. Changed with Anavah's help.
6 and 7 are self-explanatory, I think. Although some people may know a shuttlecock as a birdy.
8 I had a dream the other night of this scene and I was strugling to write a haiku about it also in the dream. Someone mentioned barley recently on DA which is probably why I had the dream. At least I think it was a dream.
9 Just the relaxing morning time I needed. The sun was nice and warm too after a bit of chilly wind the previous two days.

Awesome :) I really like this. The contrast between the sky and the flowers is great. Look forward to seeing the rest of your work this month :)

I thought you meant the way the light peeks through your eyelashes, like links in a chain! Still I like your image too, lol. I have to go look up laburnums though . .

Haha, I just updated my poem for today where I have alliteration with b, and I come to open this, and you have alliteration with m :) Fun. I like 3 because it reminds me of a little kid following a trail of ants. It has that feeling of curiosity. I really like the second one as well, though I don't get the allusion to the band :)

There are always lots of coincidences during these haikuthons.
I was watching the ants on our graveled patio area and they all seemed to be going in different directions.
I will reveal what the reference is when more people have read it.
